Elevating PAXLOVID’s User Experience with Scalable Design

Branding | Web | UX/UI | Responsive Design & Accessibility

I led the redesign of the PAXLOVID website, transforming the initial splash page into a comprehensive 5-page responsive site. The goal was to improve patient and caregiver engagement by enhancing accessibility, usability, and content clarity, aligning with digital best practices and the brand’s evolving identity.

Creative Concept:
The PAXLOVID website aimed to inform and empower patients and caregivers by providing clear, accessible, and actionable information on the FDA-approved treatment for COVID-19. The design incorporated the brand’s colors and logos, while maintaining a tone that was approachable, hopeful, and reassuring. The layout was crafted to ensure a seamless user journey, making important information easy to find and understand.

Execution:

  • Design and Prototyping in Figma: The website was designed using Pfizer's design system, which provided established guidelines and components. This required adapting the design to accommodate the system's limitations while introducing new functionality to enhance the user experience. Figma's collaborative tools and prototyping features enabled rapid design iterations and team alignment.

  • Website Development: Transformed the initial splash page into a 5-page responsive site that adhered to WCAG 2.1 AA compliance standards for accessibility. Emphasis was placed on maintaining a clean and intuitive layout that met both brand and compliance requirements.

  • Content Organization: Structured the site around key user needs, including information on how to take PAXLOVID, its efficacy, safety, and cost coverage. Content was presented in a clear, digestible format optimized for a max 6th-grade reading level to ensure accessibility for all audiences.

  • Responsive Design & Accessibility: Focused on a mobile-first approach with optimized navigation, ensuring usability across devices, particularly for patients with varying levels of digital literacy. All interactive elements were tested for WCAG compliance and seamless functionality.

  • Scalable Design System: Leveraged Pfizer’s design system to maintain visual consistency across the site. The design team worked within the system’s limitations while identifying opportunities to enhance components and introduce new functionality where needed. This ensured the project met brand guidelines without compromising usability or innovation.

Results:
The redesigned PAXLOVID website significantly improved user engagement and satisfaction, with streamlined navigation, better accessibility, and faster load times. By leveraging Figma and Pfizer's design system, the team ensured design consistency while introducing functionality that improved the patient journey. The site’s clear structure and optimized content helped patients and caregivers easily navigate key information, driving higher levels of trust and interaction.

The project played a key role in launching the site as a trusted hub for patients seeking reliable information on PAXLOVID treatment options.
